I am currently in San Francisco to be with my friend who is in late stages of cancer. I've mentioned this in the past, but struggled to put into words the depth of this journey and the meaning it's had in my life.

Emmanuel, just 27 years old, and I have been best buds from the get-go. Our friendship has always had a purity to it that shows itself in our love and Screen Shot 2014-05-29 at 11.32.33 PMScreen Shot 2014-05-29 at 11.32.33 PMconnection.

Screen Shot 2014-05-29 at 11.32.33 PMWhen Emmanuel was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, I felt my clear alignment to support him in his process. I've held him for countless hours as he writhed in excruciating pain. Together we've laughed, cried, played, and grieved. I've listened, shared, guided, and been guided by him.

The journey has been so meaningful to me. It has showed me my own capacity to love. It has reflected my capacity to serve, show-up and be in the "real" of life - even when life is difficult.

This journey with Emmanuel coincides with a time when my own work in the world is expanding. (Just last week I offered my first ever live webinar.)

Maybe you're like me and you truly want to live your best life. To be so fully YOU, so fully on purpose and engaged in meaningful activities, that you feel totally alive, on fire and connected.

What I want to share today is that living MY best life has meant becoming so connected to the truth of who I am that whatever life throws my way, I am able to show up with authenticity, love and connection.

My beautiful friend Emmanuel has shown me that my best life is happening now - even with the hard stuff. He has reminded me that my best life - the one with real meaning and connection - is the one where I'm showing up for life fully. Life just as it is.

And to show up for my life, I first have to show up for me.

As I show up for me, I can show up for others. As I have been with Emmanuel through emotional waves, excruciating pain, fear and uncertainty - I have deep deep gratitude that my connection to me allows me to stay in my heart and open to love.

You see - I know what it's like to disconnect, numb-out, and move away from the big emotional stuff in life. I know how scary it can be to love someone so fully that we feel naked and vulnerable and we have to face losing them.

I also know the gift of choosing to love, choosing to stay open, choosing to feel life fully.

It's my best life.

I'll tell you right now that the keys to this life are simple. And they work. But they are not always easy to live. It requires courage, love and a desire for more in life than just going through the motions.

All my love,
Julie
